Here are the characters in the movie and their descriptions:
*Spoiler Warning* Some of the descriptions below reveal things that happen in the movie/play so if you have not seen it then you might want to skip the descriptions.
Description: Munkustrap is like the guard of the cats. He is almost always seen guarding someone from danger, such as when he fought in a deadly battle to stop Macavity (see below) once and for all. He is also the brother of Rum Tum Tugger, son of Deuteronomy (see below), and his mate is Demeter.
Description: Demeter is one of the main female cats that is usually in the middle of whatever is going on. Although easily scared, she did put herself in danger when she knew that Deuteronomy (see below) was actually Macavity (see below) and revealed who he was before someone got hurt. Demeter is a very unique cat for many reasons. These reasons incluse the fact that she tried to welcome Grizabella (see below) into the group when just about everyone else hates Grizabella, is the only female that is not interested in Rum Tum Tugger at all, and the most suprising, the fact that she might have once had a past experience with Macavity. Since she is always the first to realize when Macavity is around, it is highly believed that she and him had a past together which is why she is so paranoid about him. She is also the mate of Munkustrap and possibly the sister of Bombalurina (see below).
Rum Tum Tugger:
Description: Rum Tum Tugger can be best decribed as the Elvis of cats. But although all the girls love him, he himself is very picky and only "likes what he finds for himself." In other words, he only wants the opposite of what he is given. He is also the brother of Munkustrap and son of Deuteronomy.
Description: Grizabella was once one of the most beautiful cats around, that is, until she got older. Once she got older, Grizabella went into a deep state of depression. She was the one chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn again. But before she was chosen, Grizabella was hated by all the cats. She was hated for two reasons. One reason is that the other female cats were jealous of her, and the other is that she once left the tribe to explore the outside world, making the rest of the tribe feel that she abandoned them. When they realized how badly she wanted to be accepted again, and also when they realized how much she had suffered, the cats agreed to welcome her back and send her up to the Heaviside Layer.
MungoJerrie and RumpleTeazer:
Description: MungoJerrie (right) and RumpleTeazer (left) are two mischievous cats that love getting into trouble. They love nothing more then getting their owners angry and not being able to tell which cat to yell at. Sadly, although these two cats are always happy and fun-loving, they are both members of Macavity's crime group. Thankfully though, they are not as bad as Macavity and only take small things from their owners and are still accepted by the others. MungoJerrie is even seen in the battle to stop Macavity after Munkustrap and Alonzo (see below) are kicked out.
Description: Deuteronomy is the king of all the cats, as well as one of the oldest. He is loved by all (except Macavity) and it is he that decides who goes to The Heaviside Layer. He was kidnaped by Macavity but was then rescued later on by Mr. Mistoffelees. His sons are Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger. It is said that Munkustrap will be king after Deuteronomy.
Description: The worst cat ever, Macavity's only goal in life is to cause crimes. When he kidnaped Deuteronomy he tried to fool everyone by dressing like the king, which led to a battle that seemed to nearly coast Munkustrap's life. Macavity (like Mistoffelees) has magical powers which he uses to help him in his crimes. These powers include hypnosis and levitation. It is unsure if Macavity was killed by an electric shock, or used that as a distraction to get away. It is also suspected that he and Demeter once had a past together, and also that Macavity is the father of Mistoffelees and Victoria.
(The Magical) Mr. Mistoffelees:
Description: Mr. Mistoffelees is considered one of the greatest cats ever for his rescue of Old Deuteronomy. He is also known as The Magical Mr. Mistoffelees for his amazing abilities to do just that...magic. He and Deuteronomy become close after the rescue, and Misto himself is greatly admired by Rum Tum Tugger. It is also believed that Misto is the brother of Victoria (see below) and, sadly, the son of Macavity! As odd as that is, that would explain how he got his powers. Also, as funny as it may sound, Mistoffelees' real name isn't Mistoffelees. That is just the name he uses when he does his magic, but in fact, it is really Quaxo.
Description: One of the most popular to sing solo's, Bombalurina is normally referred to as the flirtatious red Queen. She loves to flirt with all the boys (especially Rum Tum Tugger, but is rejected like so many other females by him). Bombalurina is almost always seen with Demeter, singing solo's or dancing, or even comforting, and it is highly believed that they may be sisters.
Description: Jemima is the youngest of all the cats. Except in a few parts of the song "Memory," Jemima is mostly a chorus kitten. She loves adventure, which is probably why she is so attracted to Rum Tum Tugger, and a good friend to Skimbleshanks. She, like Demeter and a few other cats, agrees that Grizabella should be accepted again, and even helps her in the song "Memory." It is even believed to some that she may be the daughter of Grizabella and Deuteronomy. Jemima is mostly known for her cute wide eyes, innocent face, and her surprisingly beautiful voice.
Description: Skimbleshanks (The Railway Cat) works at night on the mail train. When it comes to work, Skimbleshanks makes himself out to be very important, and almost needed, in order for the train to work. He and Jemima seem to be close friends and it also seems that Skimbleshanks and Deuteronomy are good friends as well. Deuteronomy is even seen dancing along to a little part in the song. It is unsure if Jennyanydots (see below) is his mate or not, but they are seen together through parts in the musical.
Coricopat and Tantomile:
Description: Coricopat (right) and Tantomile (left) are twin brother and sister that are together throughout the whole movie. They do not play a major part but instead do a lot of chorus work.
Description: Alonzo can best be descibed as a mixture between Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger. He is protective like Munkustrap but is almost as big of a flirt as Rum Tum Tugger (although Tugger still holds the lead). Alonzo is commonly known as "the second hand man" to Munkustrap for they are both always ready to protect someone. During the battle with Macavity, it was Alonzo that saved Demeter and took over once Munkustrap was hurt.
Description: Probably the biggest fan of Rum Tum Tugger, Etcetera is another one of the kittens. With her cute and funny personality she is liked by all, and may be the lucky female that Tugger likes the most, as they are together more than the others. She is seen being taken care of by Jellylorum (see below) and it is believed that that is her mother. Instead of being a shy kitten, Etcetera would rather be in with the crowd having fun with her fellow kittens/cats.
Description: Tumblebrutus probably gets his name for he likes to tumble, which is seen in the beginning of the movie. He does not play any big parts but is seen doing a lot of chorus work. During the Jellicle Ball, however, he is amazingly able to keep up with Mistoffelees' tricky dance moves which not all the cats are able to do.
Description: Jellylorum is a nice cat that is probably the mother of Etcetera and daughter of Gus. It is not totally sure if she is the daughter of Gus, or the mate, but either way she and him are close, and Jellylorum even sings part of his song with him. Jellylorum also seems to be close with the kittens, for she is seen either with them, or protecting them from Grizabella throughout the play.
Gus (The Theatre Cat):
Description: Asparagus (AKA Gus) is another unique cat for many reason. He is the oldest, is one of two cats named Asparagus, and was a famous cat actor when he was younger. In his youth he used to be one of the smartest and talented of cats, with his favorite roll as playing Fire For Fiddle The Fiend Of The Fell. Now that he is older he is as thin as a rail, slow, and suffers from palsy. He is still loved by all the cats nontheless, and the way they act around him seems to show that he is almost idolized. His daughter (or mate?) is Jellylorum and she takes care of him whenever he is around.
Description: Probably the most flexible of the cats, Victoria is seen throughout the whole movie. It is easy to spot her, for her coat is completely white, and her personality is of both sweet and a little feminine at times. It is because of Victoria that all the cats finally agreed to fully accept Grizabella. For when they saw her step up and take Grizabella's hand, they all knew what was right. She is also very popular among the young cats, such as her good friends Jemima and Etcetera. During the Jellicle Ball it almost appears that Victoria is leading it slightly. It also appears that she may be a female cat guard, for right before the Jellicle Ball started, and just after Macavity's slight appearence, it was Munkustrap, Deuteronomy, and Victoria that were scouting the area to make sure he was gone. It is also believed that she is the sister of Mr. Mistoffelees and....daughter of Macavity!!
Description: Exotica does not play any big parts, but instead does some chorus work. Other than in the beginning of the play, Exotica is rarely seen any other time.
Description: Cassandra is seen throughout the musical, either helping with chorus or doing tricky dance moves. The word that best describes her is "mysterious," for she seems very quiet and...just that, mysterious. It is very obvious that she and Grizabella didn't like each other. In a song Grizabella sings, it is Cassandra that she is facing when the part "You see the corner of her eye, twisted, like a crooked pin" is sung. Although, Cassandra is seen at the end when Grizabella is sent to the Heaviside Layer, so she must (like all the other cats) have forgiven her. It is also apparent that she has a crush on Mistoffelees, and is seen helping him out when he rescues Old Deuteronomy.
Description: Pouncival is mainly a chorus kitten. He does not play any big parts.
Description: The second cat named Asparagus, this Asparagus is pretty much a chorus cat. He is, although, seen throughout the musical doing singing and dancing along.
Description: Bustopher Jones is not like all the other cats when it comes to his weight. He is 25 pounds to be exact, and is convinced that by his being lazy, he has preserved all the life he would have lost with age. Nonetheless he is still very popular among the cats as being very proper and kind. He even seems to be idolized by Mr. Mistoffelees. Bustopher Jones is only seen during his song, and it is also revealed during it that Jennyanydots might have a slight crush on him, which is seen at the end of the song.
Description: Jennyanydots (the Gumbie Cat) is another cat that goes to work at night (like Skimbleshanks does). During the day she is very lazy and just sits all day long. But when her owners go to sleep Jennyanydots goes down to the basement and teaches the mice and cockroaches things to do to keep away from people, and away from "idle and wanton destroyment." She has two different outfits she wears daily. One is her big lazy suit (first on the left) that she wears during the day for her owners. The next is her work outfit (middle). After her work is done, Jennyanydots goes back to her regular skin (last picture), which she is seen in throughout the musical. It is unsure if she is the mate of Bustopher Jones or Skimbleshanks. It seems she has a little crush on Bustopher Jones, but she is also seen holding hands and singing along with Skimbleshanks.
Description: Another chorus kitten seen throughout the musical. Electra is another major Rum Tum Tugger fan, and also seems to be a close friend with Etcetera.
Description: Plato, like Exotica, is rarely seen singing during the musical. He is mostly dancing along, or not even seen at all. During the Jellicle ball, however, he is seen throughout it and at the end does the (sometimes known as) mating dance (or known as the ballet dance style pas de deux) with Victoria.
Description: The Super Man of cats, Rumpus Cat is only seen during the Pekes and the Pollicles song. It is during this song that he comes in and stops the Pekes and the Pollicles (two enemies) from fighting while the police dog was nowhere to be seen. It seems that Rumpus Cat might not like Munkustrap that much, for he seems to show him little respect during the song. Munkustrap however does not seem bothered by it, so they may actually be friends.
Here are three other cats from the musical that you may hear about, but are not mentioned in the movie. Griddlebone and Growltiger's pictures come from Wikipedia, but the descriptions and Admetus's picture were done by me (like the cats above).
Description: Another member of Macavity's crime group, you hear Griddlebone mentioned in his song. It seems that she was Growltigers girlfriend until his ship was invaded and taken over by Siamese Cat warriors. The second they take over, Griddlebone runs away and that is the end of her relationship with Growltiger. It also seems that she was a mischievous cat, for it is said in Macavity's song "...And they say that all the cats who's wicked deeds are widely known. I might mention MungoJerrie, Rumpleteazer, I might mention Griddlebone" is sung.
Description: Growltiger was like a pirate in the form of a cat. He was very tough looking, but still didn't stand a chance when the Siamese invaded his ship. It appeared that he was Griddlebone's boyfriend, but their relationship did not last long at all. He is only mentioned during his song, and you can spot him right away, for he is the only cat that has an eye patch on.
Description: The best way to describe Admetus is that during the movie he is rarely seen, yet not rarely seen. Throughout the movie, if you look careful enough, you can spot this cat. It is quite hard at times, though, since he has no big parts, no solo's, and stays only in the background. He actually blends in so well at times that it is easy to mistake him for another one of the characters. But anyways, not much is known about this cat except that he is surprisingly tall. But even so, Admetus is actually quite popular and considered a favorite to some people.
